Jose, a man of positive spirit

Jose is an 83-year-old Cuban. For the last fifty years, he has been living in a little one-room house, which, for three years, had no roof. Occasionally, he works as a gardener. Other than that, he does not have any income. Nuns of the Order of Friars Minor are giving him some food.

Regardless of his age, Jose has great plans and a vision for his life. He is a man of positive spirit.

Jose reads the Bible every day. He's an Adventist and says: "You Catholics do not know the Bible, so you will be saved by good works." When it's raining, he moves into one corner of the house that does not leak. He has no wardrobe and all his clothes are very old.

The whole house consists of one room. His kitchen is the clay floor of his house, where he makes fire. He's got no stove. Toilet bowl is in one corner of the house. No running water.

Our association "Zdenac" put a roof on his house, as well as doors, windows and walls made of wooden boards. We took out a ton of old, unnecessary things, bought him a bed, a mattress and bedding. One of "Zdenac" volunteers brought him her husband's clothes.

"Zdenac" keeps helping Jose with food on a monthly basis, through the project My Cup of Mercy.
